Large language models (LLMs), such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, are soon becoming a resource that many employees cannot function without due to the swift advancements in artificial intelligence-powered applications.

Technology is used by executives to evaluate many perspectives, by real estate professionals to prepare listings, and by attorneys to create preliminary versions of documents like wills and other legal papers.

According to recent studies looking at how ChatGPT and other language modeling AI affect various professions and businesses, certain positions, like telemarketers and instructors, are more "exposed" to the technology than others, like psychologists and counselors.

The word "exposed" has a rather broad connotation, according to the researchers, showing that professions may be affected by AI in a variety of ways, from job loss to the inclusion of technology to help with some work activities.

The top 20 jobs most susceptible to language modeling AI techniques were telemarketers. Teachers of postsecondary English language and literature and of foreign languages came next. History and other subject matter professors at the postsecondary level came next. In fact, nine of the top 11 positions were taken by teachers.

These are the 20 occupations that are most exposed:

  • Telemarketers
  • professors of English language and literature
  • professors of literature and foreign languages
  • law professors, philosophers, and religious educators
  • Sociology professors
  • Teachers of political science
  • Teachers of criminal justice and law enforcement
  • Sociologists
  • social work instructors

  • Political analysts
  • teaching cultural studies
  • Conciliators, arbitrators, and mediators
  • magistrate judges, judges, and magistrates

The industry that has been determined to be most vulnerable to language modeling AI technologies is the legal services sector. Among the professions with the most exposure were grantmaking and donating services, travel agency services, and artist and athlete management.
