Criminal psychologist Julia Shaw specializes in false memory, "evil," and bisexuality.
The co-founder of Spot, a software tool designed to assist businesses in addressing harassment and discrimination, is psychologist Julia Shaw. It includes surveys, training on harassment, and anonymous reporting. Employees can also communicate with an AI bot when anything is wrong.
Dr. Shaw is bisexual and concerned about LGBT+ rights. Her third book, "Bi: The science, history, and culture of bisexuality," was published in the summer of 2022. It promotes bisexuality and gender-neutral attraction.
University College London honorary research associate in psychology. She was senior lecturer and course director for criminology at London South Bank University from 2015 to 2017, lecturer in forensic psychology at the University of Bedfordshire from 2013 to 2015, and taught forensic psychology in Canada at the University of British Columbia and the University of Waterloo.
2013 was her Ph.D. year at UBC. She earned a B.A. from Simon Fraser University in Canada and an M.Sc. (cum laude) from Maastricht University in the Netherlands before her Ph.D.
"The Memory Illusion," her 2016 debut, was a bestseller in 20 languages. The 2021 TVnow German TV program "8 Zeugen" was based on her debut novel. Alexandra Maria-Lara plays Dr. Jasmin Braun, based on Dr. Shaw. Dr. Shaw advised and wrote the program.
"Evil: The Science Behind Humanity's Bad Side" was her second international bestseller in 2019. In 2020, she debuted the award-winning BBC podcast "Bad People" with comic Sofie Hagen and her German AudioNow podcast "Böse" with Jazzy Gudd. She writes often about criminal psychology for the BBC and other sites.
Dr. Shaw champions diversity and inclusiveness. She co-founded Spot (talktospot.com) in 2017 to assist companies to address workplace misconduct. Her third book, "Bi: The science, history, and culture of bisexuality," was informed by her diversity and inclusion research with Spot.
Dr. Shaw is a frequent keynote speaker on memory hacking, evil, workplace harassment, and bi-inclusion. She advises on legal situations, especially historical charges.
