Professor at University of California, Berkeley

The Arthur J. Chick Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley is the academic Jitendra Malik, an Indian-American. He is renowned for his work in computer vision research.

Malik was born on October 11, 1960, in Mathura, India. St. Aloysius Senior Secondary School in Jabalpur is where he attended school. In 1980, he earned a BTech in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, and in 1985, he graduated from Stanford University with a PhD in computer science. He started working at the University of California, Berkeley in January 1986, and is now the Arthur J. Chick Professor at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) Department's Computer Science Division. at addition, he teaches at the Cognitive Science and Vision Science departments of Bioengineering. He presided over the Computer Science Division from 2002 to 2004 and the EECS department from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2016 to 2017. He has been the research director and site head of Facebook AI Research in Menlo Park since January 2018, where he oversees a group of scientists and engineers working in the fields of computer vision, machine learning, and robotics.
